Why I made this website

I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 14. I tried three different prescription medications, but nothing was stopping my seizures. That’s why I started the Ketogenic diet at 17, in hopes that it would cure my epilepsy for good. A dietitian was added to the long list of medical professionals working with me, and I learned that the diet would mean drastic changes in my diet. It was difficult at first, cutting out all sugar and eating only high fat, low carb meals. I was suddenly forced to calculate everything I ate, buying a kitchen scale and checking every nutrition label. I still find myself getting frustrated with the restrictions sometimes, but I’ve adjusted to it.

One of the most difficult parts was the lack of options I could find for recipes. I started calculating my own recipes and my dietitian approved my strategy. Cooking for myself and for this website has made me a better chef. The longer I spend persisting through the ketogenic diet, the more faith I have in myself, not just in my ability to live with keto restrictions, but in my ability to handle any difficult situations that come my way.

I was always bothered by books and websites that called their recipes keto but completely neglected the high fat aspect of the diet. That’s when I realized that, although the list of recipes I’d created was not yet expansive, sharing them could help others on this diet. This thought has made me even more dedicated to creating and sharing as many recipes as I can.

As of creating this website in late 2025, I am a senior at Jewish Community High School of the Bay (JCHS) in San Francisco. At JCHS, seniors complete a year-long independent project called Keystone. When it came time to choose my keystone project, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to launch this website with support from advisors at my school.

As well as creating this website, I became a recipe contributor for The Charlie Foundation. The ketogenic diet can be a game changer for some people with epilepsy, so I was excited to encourage hesitant people to have confidence to talk to a doctor about trying the diet. It really has changed lives.
